Police target violence in Airlie

WHITSUNDAY police are investigating an increased level of aggression and violence in Airlie Beach last weekend.

Officer in charge senior sergeant Steve O'Connell said police would be enforcing Operation Unite on Friday and Saturday in Airlie Beach this weekend.

"It will be specifically aimed at the sort of behaviour we witnessed last weekend," he said.

"If people want to be idiots in Airlie Beach we've got idiot proof cells back here in the watch house for you."

He said there were four assaults on the weekend where grievous bodily harm was caused and 10 people were arrested for violent conduct.

A 22-year-old West Australian man was one of the people arrested after he spat in a police officer's face.

A 25-year-old Caboolture man was also arrested for violently obstructing a police officer and causing a small laceration to the officer's nose.
