Politicians coming to Airlie Beach
QUEENSLAND Premier Campbell Newman has announced the second Community Cabinet of the LNP Government will be held in the Whitsundays on August 5-6.
Mr Newman said the Whitsundays was an ideal location for the Cabinet, which would continue the LNP's focus on regional Queensland and follow on from the DestinationQ forum in Cairns and community cabinet in Townsville.
He said the new government had met all its first 100 day targets but there was still a long way to go to get Queensland back on track.
"By taking Cabinet to different regions we get a good cross section of views about how we can make a change for the better in this state. We are also making sure that Queenslanders will power Queensland again, not politics," he said
Whitsunday MP Jason Costigan has welcomed the announcement.
"Under an LNP Government, regional Queensland will no longer be ignored as it was by Labor," he said.
"I have lobbied hard for Community Cabinet to come to our region so members of the government get a real understanding of our concerns," he said.
"Proper funding for local roads is a red hot issue and I'm sure it will be raised with my ministerial colleagues, along with the cost of living and the need to support our tourism sector by building on the solid outcomes of the DestinationQ forum."
All 19 members of the Cabinet will travel to the region, with events planned for Proserpine and Airlie Beach. Preliminary planning is underway and further details will be publicly available in coming weeks.
The last Community Cabinet meeting to be held in Airlie Beach was in February 2011, when the former Labor Government was in power.
