Pony Club ready for biggest weekend
EQUESTRIAN: This weekend the Cannonvalley Pony Club will showcase some of the region's top equestrians in its biggest event of the year.
Whitsunday Equestrian Group is hosting the Supreme 2 Day Event highlighting popular equestrian events such as Show jumping, Dressage and All Round Horse and Rider Championships.
The two-day event is being held at Cannonvalley Pony Club, Tuckers Rd, Riordanvale, and will commence at 8.30am on Saturday and Sunday.
The WEG is excited to have on its schedule this year the "all round horse and rider championship", which involves three phases of competition, a dressage test, show jumping and a show horse phase.
The hacking phase of the all round horse rider combination contest will take place under lights at 6.30pm on Saturday, followed by presentations and a social barbecue.
There are prizes for top competitors in each class.
The Supreme two-day event is free entry to the public and the canteen will be open all weekend, thanks to the Cannonvalley Pony Club.
WEG president Tracey Davies said they encouraged everyone to come and watch.
"This is our major event - it's the big one," she said.
"All spectators are welcome, the barbecue is open to everyone."
There is a viewing grand stand for those that do wish to attend.
Money raised from the event will go back into maintenance and improving the pony club grounds.
Davies also said there will be a special tribute for NSW Equestrian champion Billie Kinder who tragically passed away on Sunday.
"The riders will be wearing a red ribbon, in honour of her," she said.
Competitors will be coming from all parts of north Queensland including Dysart and Townsville with more than 50 riders expected to participate.
"They've had some girls come from last year and really enjoyed it," Davies said.
Show jumping nominations can be taken on the day with prior membership of WEG or Equestrian Australia.
There are only four events a year for Equestrian on the Whitsundays and this is their biggest event.
The club and WEG are encouraging all members of the public to get down there and show your support this weekend June 4 and 5.
