THE weather may have gone to the dogs, but dozens of locals and their four-legged friends braved the conditions to support animals in need on Sunday morning.

Million Paws Walk event organiser Suzanne Crabtree said the event was exactly what she had hoped for - almost.

"We were so happy with the turnout," she said.

"We can only hope for a sunny day for the next one."

The event raised a whopping $5370 for the RSPCA, much to the delight of all involved.

It wasn't just those in the care of the RSPCA that benefited however.

"Cafe One 3, Andrew (Watts), baked a whole lot of doggy treats for us to give out on the day for everyone," Ms Crabtree said.

Luckily, all were putting their best foot forward and deserving of their treats.

"All the dogs were really well behaved, no incidents or anything," Ms Crabtree said.

The walk had locals putting up their hands to help out unfortunate animals in other ways as well.

"We had an information section where people could volunteer if they wanted to," Ms Crabtree said.

"(And) a few people filled out volunteer forms."

Ms Crabtree thanked all those who had already donated their money and time.

"I want to thank all the girls who volunteered on the day, and I really want to make a big thank you to our sponsors because if it wasn't for them we wouldn't have the event," she said.

The volunteers of the Whitsunday Friends of the RSPCA aren't done yet with the Whitsunday's first animal adoption drive to be held this Sunday from 10am.

Twenty-two adorable animals will be looking for new homes.

There will be dogs in all shapes and sizes from a small fluffy maltese to a great dane, a beagle, a rottweiler-kelpie cross and everything in between.

If you're a feline fan there are long and short-haired domestic moggies also up for sale.
