POPUALR bar Movidas will return to the Mackay nightclub and bar scene this weekend, opening its doors for the first time since April this year.

The bar, along with other venues The Rabbit Hole and Dirty Martinis, closed when the business went into administration, but the owners reassured the town it wouldn't be for long.

Now ready to reignite Mackay's nightlife, Movida's management are preparing for their soft launch Saturday night, where they will give away two Grass is Greener festival tickets in celebration.

The interior of the venue and menu will remain the same, as guests once knew and loved, but a new shift and focus on first class service and experience will be undertaken by staff.

"It's mainly back of house stuff that has changed but it will mean no more lines at the bar for customers, or waiting at the door as long to get in,” venue manager Lynelle Matsen said.

"We have new systems that should cut those short, and eftpos everywhere so no need to go get money out for cover charge or bar service.

"It's about making it an easier and smoother experience for customers, we want to increase speed of service and pump out those orders so people can get back to having a fun night.”

General manager Lisa Cowley said the bar had also secured a number of music acts in coming months and weeks, in response to demand from the younger Mackay community.

"We really want to give our customers what they want so we're listening and seeing what music is trending and who they want to see play and we've secured a few things coming up already,” she said.

"This weekend is the soft launch and then next weekend with Grass is Greener we host the official after party so we'll have some great acts playing then too, but on a normal weekend we'll have resident DJ's playing all the time.

"Before we closed things were just getting good again and crowds were coming in, so we really want to pick up where we left off and make Movidas better than it's ever been before.”

The enormous bar can fit over 1000 people inside, and has facilities including a powder room for girls, three pool tables, foosball, VIP booths, regular booths, a large dance floor and a designated smoking area.

Entry will be free prior to 10pm on Saturday nights, increasing to $5 from then until 11pm, after that entry is $10 until 2am.

For the official Grass is Greener after party, entry will cost $10 all night.

Doors open this Saturday from 9pm.
