Power out across the Whitsundays

MORE than 1600 homes are without power after a high voltage cross-arm was burnt in Proserpine this morning.

Residents in Cannonvale, Airlie Beach, Jubilee Pocket and parts of Proserpine have been without power since 10.51am after the incident occurred between the Proserpine Mill and the sub-station, according to Ergon Energy corporate communications manager Bob Pleash said.

"We have crews on the job responding to the incident," he said.

"We expect to have customers back on within the hour."

"Repairs will take more time to rectify but we're expecting the majority (of customers) to be back on soon."
