Power back on for most of Whitsunday

UPDATE: Power has been restored to most of the Whitsunday region with only three residences yet to be connected again.

Ergon is reporting that the problem was fixed just after midday.

An Ergon spokesperson said the cause of the outages was still to be determined.

UPDATE: ERGON Energy are now saying they are unsure when power will be restored to 1500 homes in the Whitsunday region.

Technicians have been busily working this morning after originally believing a blown lightning arrester was to blame for the outage.

Around 100 homes are believed to have been restored to power following the fix but around 1500 are believed to be still left in the dark.

An Ergon spokesperon said technicians were frantically working to fix the problem but they were still "unsure" when the power would be back on.

EARLIER: ABOUT 1600 homes are currently believed to be without power across the Whitsundays.

Areas affected include parts of Cannonvale, Airlie Beach and Jubilee Pocket.

A spokesperson for Ergon Energy said the outage started at 1.50am.

He said power was due to be restored to the majority of customers by 10am.
