Premier drops hints on date of next state election

PREMIER Annastacia Palaszczuk maintains the state election will likely be held next year, as speculation continues that she will fire the starter's gun early.

But she said the federal same-sex marriage plebiscite would not stand in the way if she decided to call it later this year.

"We don't have to wait until after that," Ms Palaszczuk said of the plebiscite.

It came as she insisted the criticism levelled at her and her ministers by some MPs and candidates this week was nothing personal and was not an indication they thought their opposition to her would help them win or keep their seats.

"We live in a democracy and they are standing up for their communities," she said.

"And I want local members out there fighting for their communities and standing up for their communities and making it known if there are issues that they want to raise."
