Promising results for polocrosse team
THE Bowen Polocrosse Club represented their local area of the Whitsunday region when they travelled to the Pyramid carnival which was held in Townsville on the weekend.
It was the second carnival of the year in the far northern zone. The team consisted of Lou and Betty Raiteri, Charles Faust of Proserpine, Ellisa Davis of Cannonvale and club president Anthony Sullivan of Bowen. The five players were joined by Teegan Carr from a Townsville club.
The club performed well and was very competitive in the B grade. Saturday morning's first game was a very close match against Cairns.
The Bowen club fought hard and came out even at the end of the four chukkas.
After going back on for extra time Bowen ended up going down by one goal. Saturday's second game was played against the Pyramid club from Gordonvale, which Bowen won convincingly 14-4 thanks to some very tight defence. On Sunday Bowen met the local Townsville side in the morning and was faced with a very hard and fast game.
There was some very good riding on display, however they went down 9-5.
The last game saw the club play against a young Burdekin side with a convincing 14-3 win. Bowen is pleased with its results as many of its players were on horses new to the game, young horses or have only recently returned to the sport.
They are looking forward to other members of the club starting their season soon.
The club competes again next weekend in Townsville.
