Proserpine first in line for My Gym Club

PROSERPINE State School will be the first facility outside the Brisbane area to offer a new gym program.

It's called My Gym Club and will be delivered to kids aged from five to 12 by champion power-lifter Leanne Knox from Whitsunday Weightlifting.

The goals of the program are to skill up children by using co-ordination activities, tumbling, locomotor skills and body strength exercises.

"It's a combination of gymnastics skills, tumbling, strength and fitness, but not the traditional bars, floor, beam, vault gymnastics program,” she said.

"Children can come and get strong and fit and develop good body awareness and then they can go to other sports with those skills.”

The My Gym Club program has recently received a Gambling Community Benefit Fund grant that has allowed it to purchase a host of new equipment.

"Now we have a big tumble track which is 7m long... a gymnastics high bar, a mini tramp, a big crash mat and wall bars.”

Phone Leanne Knox on 0441199427 for more information.
