Proserpine has its champions
BY HER own admission, Karen Vloedmans isn't often lost for words, but she was speechless when she discovered the local business community had nominated her for a Whitsunday Business Women's Award.
And it wasn't just any award. Last week, Ms Vloedmans was officially crowned Proserpine's 2015 Community Champion.
In less than 12 months the Proserpine Chamber of Commerce secretary has grown the chamber's membership from six to 70-plus, with more than 90 members expected in 2016.
Other achievements have included leading the charge to see Proserpine become an RV friendly town, pioneering the soon-to-be published Shop Proserpine flyer and tourist map, project managing the design and realisation of the town's entry statements and the organisation of Proserpine's Biggest Morning Tea in May, which raised $3000 for the Queensland Cancer Council.
Christina della Valle was the Proserpine Community Champion runner-up, for her work in educating people on the topic of healthy eating.
