Wet weather is hampering crushing operations in Proserpine

RAIN falling right now and overnight in the Proserpine area is further hampering the cane harvest and subsequent operation of the Wilmar-owned mill.

On Friday the mill commenced operation after a two and-a-half week delay caused by ground moisture in local fields.

Wilmar have predicted a wet crushing season and after today's rain have said conditions "are likely to remain challenging for most of the week".

Proserpine Mill Manager Danny Van der Berg said the rain was stopping harvesters from bolstering the cane stock pile at the mill.

"Proserpine Mill is still crushing but with restricted cane supply," he said.
