Proserpine thanks its seniors

SENIORS Week finished up last week with a free morning tea hosted by Whitsunday MP Jason Costigan.

Running a little late to the tea on Friday last week due to a lengthy sitting of parliament in Brisbane, Mr Costigan paid tribute to the contribution the senior citizens of Proserpine have made to the community.

"I think it's important that we celebrate Seniors Week," he said.

More than 40 people packed the meeting room at the Proserpine Community Centre to listen to music and enjoy the company of one another.

On Thursday the Whitsunday Regional Council gave back to Proserpine seniors by shouting them a cake and subsidising their entry to the Rocket Man show at the Proserpine Entertainment Centre.

Friends of the Theatre president and volunteer Irene Lemmon was there and said seniors from Collinsville, Bowen and Proserpine attended.

Ms Lemmon said the eats and morning tea at the morning melodies was free for Seniors Week.

She said Proserpine liked to look after its seniors and it was important to acknowledge their contribution to the local community.
