Proserpine’s next story
JUST as the conclusion of the First World War and the Treaty of Versailles laid the groundwork for the outbreak of the Second World War, the completion of Lyn Burke and Lloyd Fox's First World War commemorative book, Proserpine Answered the Call, has paved the way for their next project - a book on Proserpine's Second World War veterans.
To deal with the larger number of locals who served in the Second World War compared to the first, Ms Burke and Mr Fox have enlisted the research help of the Whitsunday Family History Group.
"Everyone will be included; we'll be using the same sort of parameters, that is, if you were born here and we can find out about it or if you were working here and joined up or if you ended up here after the war," Mr Fox said.
"I've come up with 587 names alone that put Proserpine or the surrounding areas as their place of enlistment."
If you would like a family member who served in the Second World War to be included, contact Lyn Burke on 4947 2647 or Lloyd Fox on 4947 0101.
