Proserpine High School surpasses 1000 students
"I'M EXTREMELY proud of the students," Proserpine State High School principal Don McDermid said of the school surpassing 1000 students for the first time in its 53-year history.
"I sat there last week during the induction ceremony and watched all the leaders receive their badges, and there was a great amount of pride," he said.
The students feel the same way about their school.
"It's a really good environment to be in," school vice-captain Sharie Borellini said.
"Everyone's all friendly and approachable."
Vice-captain Logan Donadelli agreed, saying the school still retained its community spirit in the face of burgeoning numbers.
"We're still a small town so we like to keep that small town environment and atmosphere in the school," he said.
Mr McDermid said this was something they worked hard to achieve, as well as maintaining a high standard.
"We have regular intervals throughout the year where we meet and we discuss students and we make sure that if there are any barriers at all for them that we're doing everything we can to overcome them," he said.
When the student leaders were asked if they had anything to add, the answer was simple.
"Come to Prossie High," they said in unison.
