Prossie students get arty in Melbourne
WHEN Georgia Summerfield had the chance to visit Melbourne with her school and experience its artistic world, she grasped the opportunity.
From Saturday, May 5 to Sunday, May 7 the grade 12 student and 46 of her Proserpine State High School peers embarked on the trip of a lifetime - a Melbourne Art Cultural Tour.
Over the course of three days, the students, who predominately study one or more arts subjects, explored the artistic side of Melbourne through tours, visits to galleries and workshops.
Georgia said the highlight of her trip was visiting the Van Gogh Museum and watching the musical Aladdin at Her Majesty's Theatre.
"They probably had the most impact and were the most significant parts of the trip," she said.
A drama student herself, Georgia said it was hard to find experiences and activities which recognised and encouraged art students.
"I saw (the trip) as an opportunity to get more in touch with the arts and understand how it influences peoples lives and how important it is to society," she said.
Drama teacher, David Albion accompanied the students on their trip along with two other teachers and said it was memorable in its own unique way for each student.
"I sat next to a student who'd never seen a musical before," he said.
"Others hadn't been out of the state or even on a plane before."
The trip was the first of its kind at the school and will run every three years. Mr Albion said the first trip was "a great success".
