QLD doctor allowed to practice after assaulting 19 women

A DOCTOR once charged with indecently assaulting up to 19 women will be allowed to practise again under strict conditions, a Queensland tribunal has ruled.

The experienced doctor was charged with 27 counts of sexual assault in 2012, following a series of incidents that occurred during consultations over a three-month period.

There were 18 or 19 victims, one of whom was a staff member, a Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal judgment published last week said.

In 2013, the case was referred to the Mental Health Court, and the doctor was acquitted because he was suffering schizophrenia at the time of his offending and was of "unsound mind".

The doctor was first diagnosed with the condition in 1998, but was allowed to continue practising subject to monitoring conditions imposed by the Medical Board of Australia.
