Qld Govt donates $60k for Red Shield Appeal

THE Queensland Government has chipped in $60,000 to kick start the annual Red Shield Appeal.

Premier Campbell Newman revealed the government donation at the Red Shield Appeal launch on Tuesday.

Volunteers will be out in force on the weekend of May 25-26 doorknocking to collect much-needed donations for the Salvation Army.

"The Salvos do a great job right across Queensland to help families and individuals in need," Mr Newman said.

"Recently, they've been working hard in flood and storm affected communities providing much-needed support to help people get back on their feet.

"The Salvos rely on generous donations from Queenslanders to help them continue their outstanding work and I would encourage all Queenslanders to dig deep during this year's Red Shield Appeal."
