QLife initiative to provide mental health counselling

A NEW mental health hotline will be created to counsel lesbians, gay, bisexual, transgender or intersex people needing help.

The Federal Government will spend $3.3 million on the service over the next two years to provide the QLife initiative.

It will be supplied by the National Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex Health Alliance with counselling already provided by groups in a number of Australian states.

Mental Health Minister Jacinta Collins said QLife would provide online chat support, forums, an email response service and other resources.

The line will be available from 5.30pm to 10.30pm seven days a week on 1800 184 527.

QLife will eventually be included as part of the national mental healthcare site http://www.mindhealthconnect.org.au
