Quod century guides Warriors
CRICKET: A blistering century from Harry Quod has helped Warriors to a comfortable victory over the battling Canecutters.
Warriors, batting first on Saturday at the Kelsey Creek Cricket Grounds, started poorly when David Vickers (1/34) ran through Bryce Fraser's (15) defence.
This wicket brought Chris Don to the wicket, who combined with Quod for an enterprising 97-run stand before Ben Davis (1/26) removed the former for 32.
Quod responded to the wicket by taking over the match, blasting Canecutters' bowlers to all directions for a belligerent 102.
Quod's whirlwind century was brought undone by young quick Jayden Lane, who demonstrated accurate line and length bowling to finish with 2/12.
Warriors finished with 5/171 from their allotted overs.
Canecutters stalwart Craig Brown and the returning Brendan Rock started proceedings positively and looked solid in their chase.
However Bryce Fraser intervened, capturing 3/29 in slicing through the top order of Brown (19), Rock (25) and Jamie Bell (10).
Jarryd Guthrie (24 not out) did his best to keep Canecutters in the hunt, but he ran out of partners.
Warren Watts (3/10), Matthew Hansen (1/38) and Matthew Shoebridge (1/9) all claimed wickets.
Canecutters were eventually bundled out for 112, falling short by 59 runs.
This Saturday Warriors will search for back-to-back victories when they play Valleys at the Kelsey Creek Cricket Grounds from 12.30pm.
Players interested in playing cricket are encouraged to attend.
Playing fees are $10 a game.
