Raiders hit back with massive win over Brothers

RUGBY UNION: The Raiders have put their season back on track with a lopsided victory over Brothers in Mackay on the weekend.

The game was never in doubt for Whitsunday as they ran away with the match and never looked back, racking up a 46-0 final score.

And the score could have been even higher had the match not been stopped with 20 minutes to go due to a Brothers player being knocked out.

Brothers were missing a host of players due to other commitments and the Raiders took full advantage.

Raiders spokesman Shannon Wolland said the performance was a massive change from last week.

"This week was a lot better, we played as a team and worked for each other. We showed we can be patient," he said.

"What else can we say?

"We had a few people that have been away for a while and came back for the match."

Wolland said they were working to the game plan.

"I think it's a pretty positive performance, it shows we're building," he said.

"Playing on Saturday is how we want to play and introducing new things as we go towards the finals - everyone knowing their roles and positions and knowing what the game plan is.

"Everyone was positioned, everyone was focused on the game plan."

While the score line resulted in a blow-out Wolland said he felt for the opposition.

"I was talking to a few of their players, they said they had about seven players out," he said.

"I think they had a reasonably new team together."

The club also wanted to send a big thank you out to Dean Jones King for getting their jerseys organised on the weekend.

Whitsunday is travelling along nicely this season and will be well placed come the businesses end of the season with only two losses so far.

While they didn't walk away with the points, it was also a big day for the Mackay club, as it served as a charity event to raise money for the Mackay Regional Mental Health Network.

White balloons were handed out to children and spectators were encouraged to wear white to mark the occasion.

All clubs in the competition are on a bye this week with Whitsunday due to return on June 18 against Slade Point at home.
