Couple renews vows seven decades into marriage

AFTER more than seven decades of marriage, Toowoomba's Ken and Else Eiser celebrated their anniversary with a romantic spring wedding where they renewed their vows.

The couple, who were married in Toowoomba at the Trinity Church on Hume St on September 20, 1941, first met when Mr Eiser came home from working out west and met his sisters' friend Else.

Mr Eiser was delighted when his sisters asked if he'd like to escort her to the play they were going to attend.

From then on, the couple became inseparable and were married about three years later when they were in their early 20s.

At the time the two were married, Mr Eiser worked at the Toowoomba Foundry and over the years the couple lived in Pittsworth, Greenmount and Westbrook, before returning to the Garden City about 50 years ago.

Mr and Mrs Eiser had four children, Stanley, Grahame, Ian and Norma.

Mrs Eiser moved into Salem Lutheran Aged Care on Hume St late last year and Mr Eiser soon followed in January because he wanted to look after his wife and make sure she "kept out of trouble".

The spring wedding at the home came about after staff decided they wanted to do something special for spring time and picked a couple living in the home with a spring anniversary to celebrate.

Mr and Mrs Eiser's friends Roydon and Leta Schmidt stood up as the couple's best man and bridesmaid and the vows were written by Lutheran pastor Marcus Schultz.
