Reef operators’ receive cost break
IT WILL cost less to visit the Great Barrier Reef for the next three years in a Federal Government effort to boost the ailing tourism industry.
The standard tourism program charge applied by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority on commercial operators will be cut from $6 to $3.50 per person for a full day trip until April, 2015.
The GBRMPA will receive $8 million in funding over two years to support the reef which generates about $5.4 billion annually for the economy.
