Regatta on lagoon all part of fun
THERE'S still time to get your craft into this Sunday's Recyclable Regatta taking place at the Airlie Lagoon.
The regatta is one of the most popular events in the annual Whitsunday Reef Festival, now in its 16th year, and draws big crowds who cheer on their favourite craft made of all kinds of recycled materials.
This year's theme is "Finding the Reef", which can be interpreted in a variety of ways, and competition is already hotting up.
"We have chosen our theme this year to reflect the worldwide interest in preserving and protecting the iconic natural wonder in our backyard and crafts will be judged on the 'Finding the Reef' theme," festival chairperson Margie Murphy said.
"We are sure everyone will get into the sprit and if entrants want to also wear their pirate outfits - which seems to be a bit of a tradition - they are more than welcome.
"People of all ages enter the regatta, from grandparents to children - it's a really relaxed day when people can kick off their shoes and have some fun with family and friends."
The Recyclable Regatta starts at 11am and this will be followed by the Whitsunday Times Lagoon Fun Day, from 12pm onwards.
The Whitsunday Times Lagoon Fun Day will include lots of fun games and races, both in and around the beautiful Airlie Lagoon, and run by the Airlie Beach Lifesaving Club.
It's a great excuse to bring the kids down to the Airlie Lagoon for some fun in the sun.
