GLADSTONE Area Promotion and Development Limited (GAPDL) is trying to secure its chunk of the lucrative backpacker market by showcasing all the region has to offer.

The market is worth billions of dollars to tourism each year. The push to get more backpackers visiting the Gladstone region is expected to reach a new level next month.

Our beautiful beaches, stunning hinterland and neighbouring islands are being showcased as the jewels in Gladstone's crown in attempts to attract more backpackers.

GAPDL, in partnership with Tourism Queensland, will be representing the Gladstone region at the two-day Adventure Travel and Backpackers Expo starting in Sydney on November 6.

The expo is expected to attract backpackers from all over the world in search of what to do and see while in Queensland.

GAPDL project officer Kim Williams said the backpacker/youth market was an important international market for the Central Queensland Southern Great Barrier Reef Region.

Ms Williams said over the past three years there was an increase in international visits across the region, predominately driven by the backpacker/youth market.

She said the Gladstone region had so much to offer, from our beaches at Agnes Water and 1770 to Lochembar Station at Kroombit Tops.
