Relief as Dingo Beach stinger net fixed for $15,000

WHITSUNDAY Regional Council has made good on its promise to fix the Dingo Beach stinger net.

Frank Jonson wrote to the council in October pointing out problems with the net.

Last month, crews got to work on the net and replaced bracing timbers and support posts, something Mr Jonson had been lobbying for since 2015.

"The outer mesh covering was removed and replaced with new material.

"All together the repair cost was $15,000,” a council representative said.

Murray Cockburn, who runs a shop behind the Dingo Beach Pub, said he was pleased to have the net fixed but it was too late to capitalise on the Christmas holiday crowds.

"We are getting quite a few people here but we won't get the full benefit until after Easter,” he said.
