Rep call for locals
RUGBY LEAGUE: The 2015 season just keeps getting better for the Whitsunday Brahmans, who had two players named in the Mackay Cutters' pre-season squad.
David Kay, 18, and Isaac Richardson, 19, were named in the 43-man squad last Thursday.
Richardson, who played as a utility with the Brahmans, said he always hoped to come into Cutters' consideration after moving to the Whitsundays at the start of the year.
"I felt I had a good season and I'm pretty happy with the selection," he said.
"That was the goal of moving up here so now I'll try my best and see where it goes."
Kay proved an asset on the wing for the Brahmans in their premiership-winning season, but now he's looking at the Cutters' pre-season squad as a means of furthering his development.
"I'd like to improve as a player and hopefully make the team," he said.
"I reckon I could improve on a few things, like my defence but I'm confident I can make the team."
Richardson said the call-up to the Mackay practice squad capped what had been a memorable year beyond his wildest expectations.
"It was pretty awesome to win a first grade premiership coming straight from under-18s... words can't describe it," he said.
"The club has been great. Everyone is mates and I think that's why we won, because everyone was so close."
