Reports Abbott has turned a boat back to Indonesia

THE Sydney Morning Herald has reported that Australia has turned back it's first boat.

The newspaper is claiming that at least one asylum-seeker boat has been turned back to Indonesia, in what is believed to be the first time the Abbott government has gone through with its tough border protection pledge.

Australian and Indonesian sources confirmed to Fairfax Media, the SMH said, that at least one asylum-seeker vessel has been turned around and that It was understood that the Royal Australian Navy frigate HMAS Stuart had performed a "turn-back" in the past week.

A Defence source told the SMH that the asylum-seekers aboard the boat were given life-jackets and communications equipment before being directed to the nearest land - Indonesia.
