Richardson is on the rise with Qld Cup stint
ISAAC Richardson is a 20-year-old rugby league front row forward with his entire career in front of him.
Originally from Denman, New South Wales, Richardson moved to the Whitsundays early last year and immediately set himself up with the Brahmans.
After a solid debut season, the prop was noticed by the Queensland Cup's Mackay Cutters after the Brahmans grand final win last year. This year he has played 13 games for the Cutters.
What's the difference between Mackay A-grade and the state's premier rugby league competition?
"It's the next level up, which is good. I like the challenge," he said.
"It's a lot faster and a lot more physical. It's been a real good experience.
"I reckon I've been getting better each week, slowly getting better with little things like tackling and running."
Growing up with two sisters, Richardson thanks his parents for getting him into the game. He started at age six and hasn't looked back since.
What keeps him coming back to rugby league?
"I just like playing in a team and being around the boys... and scoring tries," he said. "Being around the whole environment."
Richardson, who says he's always been a front rower, has played four games for the Brahmans this year and needs one more to be eligible to play in the finals.
Does he want to one day play in the NRL?
"That's the plan, to try and get a bit further, and go as far as I can," he said.
While he's a Newcastle Knights fan and the Cutters are a feeder team for the Cowboys, Richardson admits "playing for any team would be good".
For now though it's back to training, which he now splits between the Brahmans and Cutters and says it's "flat out".
Who does he thank for his success?
"Probably just mum and dad mainly. James Webb and Mick Lee have also helped a fair bit," he said.
