Riders prepare for QLD titles at local raceway
THE Whitsundays will now be hosting the first round of the 2014 Queensland Supermoto Titles from April 4-6 which were to held on the Gold Coast.
Whitsunday Moto Sports Club (WMSC) president Andrew Auld said the titles were to held at the Xtreme Karting facility on the Gold Coast, but due to new racing restrictions imposed by the Gold Coast City Council, the event had been moved to the Whitsunday Raceway.
The Queensland Supermoto sub-committee made the announcement on Sunday night and WMSC members are looking forward to hosting a successful event.
Mr Auld described the announcement as a welcome boost to supermoto racing in the Whitsundays.
"The event will bring some of the very best supermoto riders from across Queensland with some additional riders travelling from NSW to compete," he said.
"It's going to be a big rush as the event was moved at such short notice but we are expecting a strong field of 70 riders over the weekend."
He said the event would be the perfect warm-up for local riders to improve their lap times in a competitive environment before the Australian Supermoto Championships in June.
All competitors will be put to the test on the Whitsunday Raceway's custom built track which features a technical 1km bitumen track with 330m dirt track section.
A practice event will be held on Friday, April 4, with racing to be held over two days on the Saturday and Sunday, April 5-6.
Spectators are welcome to attend the event and make the most of trackside seating to catch all of the live supermoto action.
