Riders ready for another big year
PONY CLUB: The Proserpine Hack and Pony Club turns 54 this year and with its 2017 rally and competition calendar set, the clubs will hold its AGM and sign-on for new and old members next month.
This year's calendar includes big events, rallies and riding clinics.
Club president Suzanne Greenhalgh said it was a massive 2016 for the club with Baylee Evans, 11, winning the PCAQ Stockman's Challenge and adding this to her two state title wins.
"Along with her three younger sisters, the girls left their mark here in North Queensland, not only with their success but their friendly sportsmanship,” she said.
"(In) seniors, we had Amber Greenhalgh sashed runner-up adult rider for the SHCQ where she will represent Queensland at the Sydney Olympic Park for the grand nationals.
"Other highlights were riders having their first competition, along with Ruby Murdoch qualifying for the 2017 PCAQ State Dressage.”
More than $25,000 was spent last year to enhance the infrastructure and the grounds are now a sporting complex to hold all levels of competition.
"Pony club is about care, maintenance of your horse/pony,” Greenhalgh said.
"Promoting the highest ideals of sportsmanship, citizenship and loyalty thereby cultivating strength of character and self discipline. The ribbons are just a bonus.”
Riders can begin from age four and up and all abilities are welcome, with social memberships also available.
