Riders to hit racing track for national event
MOTORCYCLING enthusiasts are encouraged to fire up their engines at the national come and try day to be held at the Whitsunday Raceway on Sunday, February 23.
The Whitsunday Moto Sports Club will be hosting the event in conjunction with Motorcycling Australia in an attempt to encourage new riders to get into the sport for 2014.
Come and try day co-ordinator Ash Wheeler said all riders must sign up as a member of the Whitsunday Moto Sports Club to participate.
"You can try real racing bikes on a real racing road track in a safe and controlled environment without having to buy or own your own machine or equipment," he said.
"Once you're a member we'll provide you with a free one day competition licence so you are covered by insurance."
Come and try sessions are only available to riders who do not have a competition licence and who have not ridden on the track before.
There will be a range of road racing bikes and super motard bikes available to borrow from club members, who will also lend participants racing leathers, boots and equipment to go on the track.
Wheeler said those who wanted to ride their own bike would need to make prior arrangements and advised participants to bring a shade cover if possible.
The Whitsunday Raceway is a professionally designed and built bitumen road racing/supermoto facility that has six right and four left hand corners with an additional dirt section for motards.
Numbers are limited so get in early by contacting Ash Wheeler on 0429 464 612.
