WATCH: Usain Bolt wows in Rio Olympics 200m final

Jamaican sprint king Usain Bolt has finished his Olympic individual career in fitting style after he claimed a triple-double with a dominant performance in the men's 200m final in Rio.

The 2008 Beijing and 2012 London sprint double champion, who won the 100m final in 9.81sec on Monday, won in 19.78sec.

Canadian Andre De Grasse (20.02) won silver and Frenchman Christophe Lemaitre (20.12) claimed the bronze medal.

There was a slight grimace from Bolt as he looked up at his time - 0.59sec off his world record mark (19.19).

Earlier rain had put a dampener on a world record attempt but nothing could take away from the celebration that ensued at the Olympic Stadium in Rio.

Ever the showman, Bolt didn't disappoint with his post-race performance as much as his sub-20sec run.

Speaking to Channel 7's Pat Welsh after the race, Bolt admitted his race was tinged with sadness, knowing it was the last time he'd ever run the event at an Olympics, but was still proud of what he'd accomplished.

"I have proven to the world over and over again that I am the greatest. That is all I can do," he said.

"I really wanted to race faster, but I came out here to win and that's the first thing. I'm happy about that.

"Just coming back from injury and staying focused, I think that's been the hardest part and I've got it done so I'm proud of that.

"I keep telling these young ones, 'I'll never let you guys beat me, it's never going to happen.

"I'm getting older, I'm slowing down, that's why I need to get out of the sport."

Bolt, who turns 30 on Sunday, has eight Olympic gold medals and will go for his ninth and an unprecedented triple-triple with the 4x100m final on Saturday at 11.35am.
