A MOTORCYCLIST was left shaken after an angry driver pushed him off the Toowoomba Connection Rd, leading to a drug-fuelled road rage assault.

A 31-year-old Riverview man, driving a silver Ford Focus, rear-ended the motorcyclist heading down the Toowoomba Range, about 7am yesterday.

He pulled beside the motorcyclist, abused him and pushed him closer to the edge of the escarpment, a Queensland Police Service spokesman said.

The rider, a 29-year-old man, then made attempts to create distance and accelerated away from the man, but the Ford Focus caught up.

The male driver pulled in front of a bus, blocking traffic.

He and his female passenger exited their car and abused the motorcyclist, with the offender punching him in the head five times.

The pair fled the scene but were arrested at Laidley.

The man is charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, common assault in public place while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, driving under the influence, driving without a licence and possessing drug utensils and will face the Ipswich Magistrates Court on November 11.
