Roads on radar
THE notorious intersection of Shute Harbour Rd and Gregory-Cannonvalley Rd is now on Queensland Transport and Main Road's radar.
Whitsunday councillors Ron Petterson and Jan Clifford raised the issue at a Traffic Advisory Board Meeting on Monday.
"The problem is drivers are inattentive when they're turning," Cr Clifford said.
"They're not allowing enough time to get around the intersection," Cr Petterson added.
With both roads under State Government control, council is powerless to make changes.
TMR is now aware of the issue and will be looking into it, the councillors said.
"What we can say is it is now on the radar for the Department of Transport, which is a good step," Cr Petterson said.
"But people need to understand it is a state controlled road, so it's not a council position."
Cr Clifford said there were "all sorts of hoops to jump through" in getting changes made.
"At the end of the day it's (TMR's) dollar and it's their road but I can assure you that Ron and I have really brought this up quite seriously because it's only a matter of time before there is a serious accident," she said.
