Rock music festival needs a logo
A COMPETITION has now been launched to design a logo for the Whitsundays very first 80's Oz rock revival music festival titled 'Whitsunday Calling'.
Event promoter John "Scratch" Grey said the idea was to involve the community in coming up with a logo that would fit the profile of a festival he hoped would become an annual event.
"The successful design should reflect the area and incorporate the musical nature of the festival," he said.
Mr Grey said Whitsunday Calling, currently scheduled for September 1-2 at council's proposed sports park near Brandy Creek, would be a two-day music festival featuring Australian rock bands of the 1980's.
The wish list for a line-up of entertainment currently includes bands like The Black Sorrows, Hoodoo Gurus and Mental as Anything as well as individual artists such as Paul Kelly and Jimmy Barnes.
The festival will be run as a community event with all proceeds after costs delivered back to the community by way of a fund, which Mr Grey and his associates are in the process of setting up. Mr Grey said the prize for the successful logo design would be full entry for two people to the event, with food and drink supplied and including a backstage pass, on one nominated day.
