Alma St Medical Centre confirms second venue after fire

UPDATE: Thursday 1pm

AFTER a large fire destroyed the inside of Alma St Medical Centre yesterday, the practice has confirmed they will be temporarily accepting walk-in patients at the Mater Hospital.

This will be done at the hospital's outpatient department between the hours of 8.30am to 5pm.

Dr Bernie van Heerden, Dr Adri Mostert, Dr Myo Aung and Dr Harry Robertson will be available for general consultations today and tomorrow.

But, the practice remains unable to take bookings over the phone or online.

On their Facebook page today, the centre confirmed  they had secured a second venue across the road from the 155 Alma St practice.

They hope to be open for business within the next week.

UPDATE 11.45AM: Investigations into the cause of the fire at Alma St Medical are still continuing. 

UPDATE: A fire investigator will attend the scene this morning to analyse the building. 

The scene was guarded overnight by local police.

FIRE crews rushed to Alma St Medical Centre last night after the building caught fire.

Three crews worked to extinguish the structure fire that occurred at 12.10am this morning.

Authorities confirmed the cause of the fire is unknown but it is not being treated as suspicious.

The building sustained internal damage as a result.

No one was hurt during the incident.
