Romance flares up before Harry and Christo’s MKR elimination

HARRY and Christo's date night theme turned to tears when the young guns were eliminated from My Kitchen Rules tonight.

The Melbourne mates showed moments of culinary brilliance but it wasn't enough to best Green twins Helena and Vikki.

Gone were the niceties of last week's sudden death cook-off, which saw bubbly teacher Carly take time out to help Annie and Jason.

Although Harry and Christo did bring the romance into the kitchen, cooking their perfect three-course "date night" dinner.

"If we're going to try and impress a girl we bring out the tuna Carpaccio," Christo said.

It was pretty clear though that the them was aimed at just two girls: Thalia and Bianca.

The flirting between Bianca and Harry heated up, with the Tassie girls vocally supporting the Melbourne lads.

Helena and Vikki stuck to their heritage, cooking Greek family favourites inspired by their grandmother.

The twins elicited a few laughs from the peanut gallery when they talked about bringing their "two brains" to the challenge.

But it didn't take long for Vikki to cut her finger. She continued chopping tomatoes one-handed, though.

Despite warnings from judge Manu Feildel, Harry and Christo stuck by their tried and tested recipe to put raw garlic on their Carpaccio.

It paid off, with the judges calling it the dish of the day.

"Is it too simple? It's not," guest judge Karen Martini said.

"It really comes together and just sings on the plate."

But the twins also had a stand-out entrée, impressing "seafood king" Pete Evan who said the girls cooked their mussels to "perfection".

"That sauce is Mama Mia," guest judge Guy Grossi said.

Feildel had to fulfill his promise to kiss Christo if his Bearnaise sauce was a success.

Unfortunately, though, it was the only good element on the plate with Harry undercooking the Wagyu steaks.

"The Bearnaise is the best thing on the table," guest judge Colin Fassnidge said.

Evans agreed: "There was a lot to like about this dish on paper, but it just hasn't delivered."

Helena 's strategy of naming and treating her and Vikki's Moussakas like their "children" paid off.

The judges were mostly impressed with their main course.

The final dessert course was a let down for both teams.

The judges thought the twins' dessert was more an afternoon tea offering than an elimination cook-off worthy dish.

"It's really just a cupcake," Liz Egan said.

The judges were equally disappointed with Harry and Christo's runny crème brulees, which were the consistency of a thick shake.

"It has good flavour, I'll give it that," Evans said.

While the twins' dessert was not impressive, it didn't suffer from the technical issues of Harry and Christo's brulee.

"If you stay you're really going to have to pull your socks up," Fassnidge said before delivering his four-point verdict.

The low score helped to seal the fate of the boys, who said they had formed lasting friendships on the show.

"We didn't really know what we were getting ourselves into," Christo said.

"Even though it's a cooking competition, it's bigger than food. Food creates memories and food creates good times."

Tomorrow night, the remaining teams cook lunch for tradies at a construction site.
