Roos stave off poachers to sign attacking pair

IN-DEMAND forward Mason Wood has snubbed a lucrative offer from Sydney to re-sign with North Melbourne.

He was one of two Kangaroo forward to put pen to paper at Arden Street, along with goalsneak Lindsay Thomas.

The 22-year-old Wood (pictured) has enjoyed a breakout year, and while he has kicked only 12 goals in eight games, has shown immense promise – certainly enough for the cashed-up Swans to come calling.

With Kurt Tippett playing as the No.1 ruckman, before injury, and Lance Franklin, spending more time upfield, the Swans were hopeful of having Wood close to their goals.

But North list manager Cameron Joyce confirmed yesterday Wood had signed for a further four years.

“Mason was always keen to stay at Arden Street. He has a very bright future at North,” Joyce said.

The skilful albeit controversial Thomas, who kicked five goals in the Roos’ win over Collingwood on Friday night, has signed on for another two years.
