Roundabout to come to Tropic Road

WORK is set to start on a $4.4 million upgrade to the intersection of Tropic Road and Shute Harbour Road in August.

The site of a planned $4.4 million upgrade on the Whitsunday Way was given the seal of approval by Main Roads Minister Craig Wallace and Member for Whitsunday Jan Jarratt on Tuesday.

Mr Wallace said work would start in August, weather permitting.

“It’s the next step in the upgrading of the Whitsunday Way,” he said.

“I’ve got to take my hat off to Jan Jarratt.

“She has been a strong and vocal supporter for better roads right across the region.”

A roundabout will be built at the intersection of Tropic Road as part of the upgrade.

“The roundabout will improve traffic flow and boost safety for motorists coming in and out of Tropic Road,” Ms Jarratt said.

Ms Jarratt said other work to be carried out on the Whitsunday Way before the busy Christmas holiday period included an $80,000 lighting upgrade between Cannonvale and Jubilee Pocket.

“Main Roads will also carry out $1.2 million in safety improvements at the intersection of Rifle Range Road,” she said.

It is anticipated work will be completed by late November.
