Sally Pearson stripped of 100m gold

A DISTRAUGHT Sally Pearson has slammed the farcical process that led to the stripping of her Commonwealth Games gold medal in the 100m final.

Four hours after she crossed the line in first place at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Pearson learned that a protest from the England team over her apparent false start had been upheld, resulting in her disqualification from the race.

A procedural gaffe from local officials saw Pearson escorted to the medallists' waiting room and the Australian flag prepared for raising immediately after her race.

That occurred during the 30 minute period in which England officials were allowed to protest the result, creating confusion and frustration among Pearson and her entourage.

“I’m just numb right now," Pearson said, fighting back tears. "It didn’t go my way and that’s what I have to deal with and I’m just going to use my emotions and my anger and my disappointment and put it into the hurdles [on Sunday] and I hope that I can come out on top.”
