School leaders take charge in Prossie
AT A ceremony on Monday 2017 leaders took to the stage at Proserpine High School to accept the responsibility of forging the direction of the student body for the school years ahead.
Principal Don McDermid said the school chose to include as many students as possible in a leadership role in 2017.
"I think the real benefit of that is it allows so many students to be involved in leadership and that was one of the messages that I had for the students today,” Mr McDermid said.
"Leadership can be about the little things and the simple things we do that can make a really big difference to your peers and the school,” he said.
"We have worked really hard to make sure we have streamlined levels of responsibility... and we know they have real clarity about what their roles are.”
Female school captain is Bree Jolley and vice school captain is Brooklyn Lade.
"It is a massive honour and I am ecstatic to be in this position this year,” Bree said. "I was shocked and very proud. I am sure it will help me a lot with public speaking and personal development,” she said.
Male school captain is Brendan Hoffman, with Malachi Lane in the vice school captain role.
"It's a huge responsibility that we have been given but an exciting one,” Brendan said.
"We are excited to have the chance to make this school even better than it already is and keep it travelling in the direction it is going,” he said.
Mr McDermid said allowing the student leaders to play an active role in the greater community of Proserpine, with a view to fostering altruism and community ties, was a goal of the school.
