Sea Eagles put out support call

WITH many sports due to return in the New Year, the Whitsunday Sea Eagles may be one team who doesn't.

Players, parents, supporters, referees and time keepers are all invited to attend a meeting on January 8 at the Reef Gateway Hotel from 3pm where it will be decided if the club has enough players to field a senior side.

Senior club secretary Barb Adamson said she was calling the meeting to gauge interest for the 2012 season and to see who would be willing to help support the club.

"Everyone that cares about the club has to come to the meeting," she said.

"We have plenty of junior players but not enough seniors.

"We also need to establish a committee."

Anyone aged 15 and older is welcome to join the family friendly club and sign-up to play in the 2012 competition.

"We used to be a very proud club and won five premierships in a row a few years ago," Adamson said.

"There is no reason why that can't happen again.

"It would be sad if the junior kids don't have an A Grade side to look up to."

The club need to know numbers fairly quickly because Mackay will be hosting their own meeting on January 10 to establish a play schedule, sign-up and register teams in preparation for the upcoming football season.

On January 11 the Whitsunday Sports Park will also be hosting their own meeting for clubs to be able to book the ovals and club rooms.

"If everyone can donate their time on one day in the whole season we will be ok," Adamson said.

"We need people's support and that includes sponsors too."
