Sea Eagles selected for Crows reps

THE Whitsunday Sea Eagles have continued their strong representation in some of the region’s most prestigious teams with six junior players being named in the Mackay Crows under-14s representative side.

Angus Hawkins, Jarrod Booth, Ben Spencer, Kerr Claxton, Tory Pendrey and Eli Gunders were named in the 23-man squad on Monday night ahead of the representative carnival held at Harrup Park in Mackay this weekend.

The Sea Eagles players were part of a 45-player squad that took part in a training program over the past 15 weeks.

The players were then selected in the final squad after taking part in a trial match against Townsville at Tony Ireland Stadium last weekend.

AFL Mackay development manager David Harding said the talented group of players set the region up for a very exciting future.

He said he was extremely confident the squad would give a very good account of themselves.

"The chance to play at the AFLQ Country Championships is the highest level of football that most of these boys will have played," he said.

"I have no doubt they will be more than competitive."

There are five teams from North Queensland that will take part in the carnival from Cape York in the top end through to Rockhampton in the South.

Following the carnival there will be a 23-man squad announced to represent the Country Kookaburra’s to take part in the State Championships.
