Search for missing woman ends

Police divers have recovered the body of a 31-year-old woman, missing since a vessel capsized off Whitsunday Island at around 4.30pm yesterday afternoon.

Eleven out of the 12 occupants were rescued from the 10 metre vessel, which was overturned during a storm in the vicinity of Turtle Bay.

Police and local authorities conducted an extensive air and sea search operation to try to locate the remaining woman. The search was described as extremely difficult due to severe weather conditions both last night and today.

Police say the woman's body was eventually found inside the vessel after it was towed back to Hamilton Island today.

A police report and post mortem examination will help to determine the cause of death, which is currently being treated as non-suspicious.
