School asbestos find lockdown: 'Student safety a priority'
BREAKING: Parents have been assured that their children will be kept safe after an asbestos debris discovery at a school.
Crows Nest State School P-10 campus yesterday alerted parents, with acting principal Ian Insley saying the southern area of the school that includes the Music/J Block was closed.
"Debris found in the surrounding area may be fibro, which may contain asbestos," he said in a letter sent home yesterday.
He said the area would remain restricted until a clearance was provided for it to reopen.
"A professional clean will be undertaken," he said.
"These precautions will ensure that all students and staff are kept safely away from the area."
He said student and staff safety was taken seriously and endeavoured to keep the school community informed.
