Seige situation in Proserpine

EMERGENCY services are responding to a siege situation in Proserpine.

It's believed they are negotiating with a man, who is in a unit in Dobbins Lane, which is near the main street and the Proserpine Entertainment Centre.

A police spokesman said no-one else was involved in the incident.

A Whitsunday Times reporter said emergency service workers were at the scene, and State Emergency Service volunteers had set up marquees.

Firefighters were on standby in case there was a fire or an explosion, she said.

Police cars blocked off nearby streets, however, a police spokesman said the area had not been evacuated.
