UPDATE 11AM: The Bruce Highway 10km north of Gin Gin is now open in both directions after a serious truck crash on Friday morning.

Traffic is reported to be flowing freely.

7.50AM: One lane of the Bruce Highway is set to remain closed until mid-afternoon after a serious truck crash just north of Gin Gin.

At around 1.30am a semi-trailer and a B-double collided about 10km north of Gin Gin, closing both lanes of the Highway.

Emergency services provided assistance to the male drivers of both vehicles, and the driver of one truck has been airlifted to hospital.

One lane of the highway is now open, but significant delays are expected.

Police are encouraging people to seek alternative routes, and diversions are in place:

Southbound - use Fingerboard Road from the Miriam Vale end via Rosedale to Bundaberg

Northbound - use Apple Tree Creek turnoff to Bundaberg and follow signs to Agnes Water, Rosedale and on to Miriam Vale.

The RACQ CareFlight Rescue helicopter was called to the scene at 1.30am.

Emergency services worked for two hours to free the man from the truck.

Once released, the man in his 20s was airlifted to the Royal Brisbane Hospital in a serious condition with multi-trauma injuries.

One in ten of all RACQ CareFlight Rescue missions are to treat and airlift patients seriously injured in road accidents.
