6.30am: Detectives have charged a 29-year-old man following investigations into the armed robbery of a Paget service station yesterday morning.

It will be alleged at 4.55am a man entered the Empire Street business after filling a vehicle with fuel, selected a drink then asked the female attendant for cigarettes.

Police will further allege that when the cigarettes were provided the man indicated he was armed and left with the drink, cigarettes and the fuel.

The female attendant was not physically harmed during the incident.

A 29-year-old Victoria Plains man has been charged with one count of armed robbery and is due to appear in the Mackay Magistrates Court today.

8am Tuesday: POLICE are searching for a man allegedly involved in the armed robbery of the Paget Caltex Service Station, south of Mackay this morning.

A police media spokeswoman said the robbery occurred about 4.50am at the Boundary Rd business.

She said it was a "possible armed robbery" but this was still being investigated.

The female service station attendant was not "physically harmed" in the altercation, police media said in a statement.

Initial reports suggest the man told staff at the service station he was armed with a gun before making off with two cans of Redbull, cigarettes and a full tank of fuel.

While no gun was sighted, the man is being treated by police as armed.

The man is believed to be driving a 2000-2003 model silver sedan Commodore or Falcon.

He is described as Caucasian, in his late 20s to early 30s, 178cm tall, a thin to medium build, with a close cropped beard and wearing a dark flannelette shirt.

The service station was still shut at 7.20am.

Rockhampton police were told to keep an eye out for the vehicle and suspect.
