Seven straight wins for Raiders

RUGBY UNION: The Whitsunday Raiders are in seventh heaven. The two-time reigning premiers completed their seventh straight victory on Sunday in Mackay, knocking over Slade Point 45-12.

Scott Gerrand starred at fullback for Whitsunday while Florian Marin notched a hat-trick to lead a team missing 10 regulars.

"They were much better than I expected," coach Rama Chand said of Slade Point.

"A couple of things let us down, like our discipline in defence," he said.

"To let in two soft tries is disappointing.

"But in terms of attack, you can't complain about that."

The Raiders led by just 12-points at half-time, but blew the game open with their superior fitness in the second 40 minutes - a trait that is developing into a regular theme this season. This week Whitsunday will host Brothers at the Whitsunday Sportspark, but the team will be viewing it as a dress rehearsal for next week's grand final rematch with Mackay City. Saturday's game will kick off at 3pm at the Whitsunday Sportspark.
